With
the corporate office located in Georgia, and other operational offices
located in other states, this privately owned family business origin
dates back to 1971. Founded by Bob Stone, now Chairman of the Board of
Directors, SMI had humble beginnings as a computer services bureau for
area businesses and Georgia county welfare offices. As SMI business
lines developed, the company also provided food stamp distribution to
over 20 states. Along with wife Tish, now SMI Board Secretary and
Treasurer, Bob developed SMI into a nationally-recognized and respected
technological services provider.
As
the family management looked for new governmental technology niches, SMI
developed, marketed and procured child support and child welfare
solutions. During this same time period, the leadership torch was passed
to the second generation of the Stone family – sons Joe, Bill, and Bart.
Reared and actively involved in the business from early ages, this
progression was accepted with great success by the Stone sons. With
Bob’s advice and mentoring, the second generation of SMI stepped in to
establish innovative solutions that always ensure children and families
are at the forefront of SMI’s business focus.
